Background

  • Jeonbuk State is facing the risk of regional decline due to youth outmigration and a lack of high value-added industrial infrastructure.
  • The province is promoting policies to advance core industries, transition toward future emerging industries, and improve employment conditions.
  • In alignment with Jeonbuk State policies, universities are establishing specialization strategies to nurture innovative regional talents.

Objectives

  • To foster specialized universities dedicated to cultivating innovative talents in eight strategic industries.
  • To enhance local employment retention by nurturing regional innovation talents through industry–academia–research collaboration.

Key Initiatives

Development of Specialized Universities for Eight Life and Transition Industries
  • Establish university-specific talent development strategies linked to life and transition industries.
  • Reorganize academic structures and build integrated research–employment systems aligned with these industries.
Life Industries Agro-Bio Microorganisms, seeds, functional foods, and food ingredients
Bio-Medical Medical services, veterinary science, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, biotechnology, and biopharmaceuticals
Clean Energy Renewable energy, green biomass, hydrogen fuels, and chemical industries
Life Services & Wellness Aging care, healthcare, welfare, caregiving services, silver industries, leisure, and healing
Transition Industries Advanced Materials Convergence Secondary batteries, textiles, battery systems, and all-solid-state energy storage devices
Future Mobility Automobiles, engines, agricultural machinery, construction equipment, mechanical systems, shipbuilding, and vessels
Global Cultural Tourism Cultural contents, films, dramas, tourism, and experiential programs

Cultivation of Convergent and Innovative Talents in Eight Specialized Industries
  • Development of high-level talents with master’s and doctoral research capabilities
  • Training of convergent practical professionals linking university specialization with industrial needs
  • Field-oriented professional training linked to employment through hands-on practice

Annual Implementation Plan (Example)

Introduction Phase(‘25~’26)
  • Reorganization of undergraduate and graduate academic structures based on university specialization, including industry-tailored (order-based) curricula
  • Securing highly qualified faculty members with extensive field experience and professional expertise, and ensuring their active participation in education
  • Establishment and improvement of educational environments required for effective project implementation
  • Development and operation of industry demand-driven industry–academia–research collaboration programs
  • Cultivation of advanced talents at the master’s and doctoral levels, industry-based convergent practical professionals, and field-oriented specialists linked to employment
  • Joint development of curricula and courses reflecting corporate demand across each of the eight life and transition industry sectors
  • Establishment of faculty governance systems and student networks among participating universities in related industry fields
Growth Phase(‘27~’29)
  • Advancement of academic structures based on university specialization in the eight life and transition industry sectors
  • Enhancement of problem-solving-oriented courses and programs linked to the eight life and transition industries
  • Advancement of student career design and employment support programs linked to regional companies
  • Identification and dissemination of exemplary specialized curricula and successful project performance cases in the eight life and transition industries
  • Expansion of standardized field internships linked to regional corporate recruitment and establishment of corporate networks
  • Survey of employment outcomes for participating students and linkage with regional settlement support programs
  • Advancement of practice-oriented, experiment- and training-based, problem-solving joint curricula
