Jeonbuk National University (JBNU) Accelerates Settlement-Oriented Glocal Model Through International Student Start-Up SupportJBNU is accelerating the construction of a settlement-oriented glocal model that links expanded international student recruitment through the Glocal University 30 Project with local settlement and start-ups.
JBNU is pursuing a key strategy under the Glocal University 30 Project to recruit 5,000 international students and has secured more than 3,600 international students to date. Furthermore, it is strengthening employment and start-up support so that these students do not simply enroll but can settle in the region after graduation and take on industry-linked roles.
As part of this strategy, the JBNU Startup Support Center (Director Kuk Kyung-su) held the "Global Inbound Start-up Idea Camp" in Jeonju Hanok Village on May 26. The camp was held as part of Jeollabuk-do's 2026 Inbound Start-up Support Program and is a start-up-focused program targeting international students.

Jeonbuk National University (JBNU) Geonji Art Hall Reopens After RenovationGeonji Art Hall, the small performance hall of JBNU's Samsung Arts Center, which opened in 1998 and has long been recognized as a cultural space for local residents, has reopened following major renovations.
JBNU (President Yang O-bong) held a reopening ceremony on the 22nd in the first-floor lobby of the Samsung Arts Center's Geonji Art Hall. The reopening was undertaken to comprehensively renovate the aging performance venue and transform it into a safer, more comfortable cultural and artistic space.
Since its opening, Geonji Art Hall has served as a multi-purpose cultural space where students and local residents together have enjoyed performances, exhibitions, and academic events. However, after approximately 28 years the overall aging of the facilities made improvements increasingly necessary.

Jeonbuk National University (JBNU)–Thales Korea Accelerate Cooperation in Defense and Space Talent DevelopmentJBNU is expanding cooperation with global aerospace and defense company Thales Korea and accelerating efforts to train future talent for the defense and space industries.
Francois Piolet, CEO of Thales Korea, visited JBNU on May 22 and met with President Yang Oh-bong to discuss ways to expand industry–university collaboration in advanced defense fields. The visit was a follow-up to the memorandum of understanding (MOU) on defense talent development and industry–university cooperation signed in March.
The two institutions had previously agreed under the MOU to establish a cooperative framework linking education and industry, including training global defense talent, operating scholarship programs, conducting joint research, and promoting internships and mentorships.

Launch of 'Jeonbuk Science Dream Nurturing Education' to Cultivate Regional Science and Technology TalentThe '2026 Jeonbuk Science Dream Nurturing Education,' which will nurture the dreams of scientific talent in the Jeonbuk region, has made a vigorous start.
Jeonbuk National University (JBNU) Center for Gifted Education in Science (Director Gu Ja-chun) announced on the 23rd that it held the entrance ceremony for the Jeonbuk Science Dream Nurturing Education at the College of Education Science Building and celebrated the new start of 50 elementary students from North Jeolla Province.
The program is organized by the North Jeolla Province Lifelong Education Scholarship Promotion Institute, and the JBNU Center for Gifted Education in Science has been commissioned to operate part of the curriculum. The education will run from May to September this year and will focus on four fields—mathematics, biology, geology, and IT convergence—through weekend classes, intensive summer vacation courses, and field trips to strengthen students' scientific inquiry abilities.

Jeonbuk National University (JBNU) Delivers a Warm Meal to Students Nationwide Through Student Cooperative's 'Kongseal Package'Jeonbuk National University (JBNU) put into practice the value of sharing created jointly by students and campus members, bringing a warm resonance to the campus. On the 22nd at 1:30 p.m., JBNU held a 'Kongseal Package' distribution event at the Student Town Plaza and delivered packages conveying support to university students nationwide who are facing financial difficulties.
'Kongseal' is a student cooperative initiative rooted in the spirit of sharing of our ancestors — the idea that of three beans, one goes to the bird, one to the insect, and the remaining one to people. Since it first began in the second semester of 2018, it has distributed 6,502 packages to 1,526 students nationwide, steadily spreading a culture of sharing across campuses.

Community Child Centers Launch Care–Safety Net Project for Local ChildrenThe Jeonbuk National University (JBNU) Industry‑University Cooperation Regional Child Center Jeonbuk Support Group, operating under commission from Jeollabuk‑do Special Self‑Governing Province, is launching the 'Care–Safety Net Establishment Project' to ensure the safety and protection of children suspected of being abused at home.
This initiative, the '함께지킴365' project supported by the Jeonbuk Community Chest of Korea, aims to establish a tailored integrated care system centered on community child centers to ensure that children suspected of abuse are safely protected within the local community and can grow healthily.
Currently five community child centers in the province are participating: Jeonju Girin and Chorokbyeol, Iksan Sinhwangdeung, Wanju Iseo, and Jangsu 1318 Happy Zone Didimdol. 'Learning Southeast Asia': Jeonbuk National University (JBNU) Language Camp Held for 13th TimeAs the strategic importance of the Southeast Asian region grows, the 'Southeast Asia Language Camp,' which offers undergraduate and graduate students from Korean universities opportunities to study specialized foreign languages and gain regional understanding, will be held for the 13th time this year.
This camp, which has established itself as a representative program for learning Southeast Asian languages, began in 2019 as a Yeongnam–Honam exchange program between the Jeonbuk National University Institute for Southeast Asian Studies (Director Jeon Je-seong) and the Specialized Foreign Language Project Group at Busan University of Foreign Studies (Director Lee Mi-ji). Totaling KRW 20 billion, it is a core project aimed at establishing basic humanities and social sciences research hubs at regional flagship national universities and cultivating regionally based research personnel.
